Name: Chris Coon
ECCC Board Position: ECCC Communication Director
Education: Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media – Communication (The University of Akron),
M.S.- Human Resource Leadership (West Virginia University)
Organization: Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities
Current Position and what you do: Area Coordinator of Workforce Development
Proudest Professional accomplishment: I was a Job Developer for three years at OakLeaf Partners (Formerly known as United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland) and I would say getting the individuals I worked with a job was a proud moment each time out. It is so hard now days to obtain a job, but to do it over-and-over again throughout the year with a wide range of people with barriers is quite the accomplishment because for some people that is their first ever job and it has taken them a long time to achieve that goal. You're impacting someone's life in some sort of way and I took it very serious and still do to this day.
Describe your values and how they inform your career: I am someone who hates to see others struggle because I hate that feeling of being lost. Growing up I had an IEP in school and it took quite some time for me to be diagnosed with a learning disability. I never want anyone to feel as if they are not trying because of a limitation or someone perceiving them as being lazy. I think this kind of work we do at the Employment Collaborative helps support what I believe in and that's why I am so passionate about it.
Who are you outside of work: I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter. I enjoy going for walks with our beagle Rusty, going to wineries, concerts, or just watching Jeopardy at home with my girls. I also like to hang out on our deck and enjoy drinks with friends. Some of my biggest passions is collecting Vinyl Records, Smoking Meat, and catching a baseball game.
