Name: Carly Sichau (pronounced sit-chow).
ECCC Board Position: Community Outreach- Marketing position
Education: Westlake High School-Graduated 2008
Toledo/Owens College Applied Science: Criminal Justice graduated 2013
Organization: Independent Employment Services, LLC
Current Position and what you do: Community Employment Specialist, Job Coach, Job Developer, advocate
Proudest Professional accomplishment: Honestly, I know it is going to sound cliché but being a part of the ECCC Board. I feel I am most proud of this accomplishment because of the people involved with the board their knowledge is remarkable and it honestly makes me proud to just be part of something so amazing.
Another scenario I can think of is with an individual working out in the community as cleaner. This individual wanted to do more than just clean but was unsure of his own capabilities. Any time I would talk with him I’d always tell him, “You don’t know until you try.” Because he’d often ask what I thought about him in various positions or trying a new task. And I would always say, “you should try anything and everything once, but never say you can’t do something.” -Few months later even after his case closed I got a call from his manager who called to give an update and as he was speaking he was telling me about all the new tasks individual has tried and still continues to ask to learn more. The manager called to tell me the latest task he had tried did not go well but at the end of it all my individual said to the manager, “Well at least I tried, Ms.Carly would be happy.” And he was right! As the manager was telling me I got teary eyed because he tried his hardest and continues to try. So, the fact he listened and still tried when I had faded out, proudest coaching moment I’ve had.
Describe your values and how they inform your career: My values are straight forward. I take accountability when I make a mistake or flat out forget, even if I know it’s going to get in trouble- I’m honest when it comes to not knowing or understanding something- My loyalty and dedication for individuals is admired by my loved ones, I’ve often filled out an application or helped individual finish their on barding paperwork while on a camping trip( it’s always amazing to my friends the length I’ll go to get Wi-Fi and help my individual). I went to college with the ambition to be a police officer which their main goal is to help the community and that is what I do and continue to do as a community employment specialist.
Who are you outside of work: Outside of work I would say I’m a nature gal, if it’s nice weather,- I’ll be in the woods listening to music. Anything nature, camping, fishing, kayaking, swimming, anything outside, I LOVE! Anything animal, especially dogs, they’re my weakness. If I’m out with friends and see a dog, chances are that doggy is about to get some scratches from me!- I am youngest of four siblings, my parents just celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. We grew up out in the country (we had ride your tractor to school day- if that gives you an idea of how country) moved to Cleveland when I was 10 years old. I played soccer, softball, volleyball, and street hockey (when my brother let me play). My first job ever was when I was 15 at a nursing home in all areas of the kitchen, I worked this job until it was time for college in Toledo, OH. Throughout college I had many jobs to help pay for school and living. Cleaning homes, dishwashing, cooking, hosting, waitress, bartender, bar back, to name a few.
Favorite or funny quote: "You should try anything and everything once, but never say you can’t do something."
