Name: Viktoriya Skubyak
ECCC Board Position: Events
Education: Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Cleveland State University. Magna Cum Laude
Organization: U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants
Current Position and what you do:
Employer Engagement Program Coordinator- I partner with the employers and support them in communication and development of career advancement training for the eligible refugees and immigrants. Additionally I participate in job development activities with our other employment teams.
Proudest Professional accomplishment:
My proudest professional accomplishment is being recognized for my hard work by the Employment Collaborative, which led to my nomination to its board and eventually becoming the chair. This recognition means a great deal because it reflects not only my dedication but also the trust and respect of those I collaborate with. Being part of the Employment Collaborative has allowed me to work with individuals who inspire me every day. I’ve had the privilege of learning from them, growing alongside them, and collectively creating opportunities for those we serve.
Describe your values and how they inform your career:
Humility is at the core of everything I do. It’s a value I consciously remind myself of in my work with people, guiding me to approach every interaction with a sense of selflessness, dignity, and respect. It’s about doing what I can to serve others while recognizing that every person has something valuable to teach me.
This commitment to humility naturally aligns with my second core value: growth. I believe in staying open to learning—whether that means gaining new skills, understanding different perspectives, or accepting imperfections, both my own and others’. This deep desire to grow drives me to know better, do better, and ultimately be better.
Finally, humility and growth lead to collaboration. To me, success is about supporting one another on the path to greatness. By working together, we create opportunities not just for individual achievement but for collective impact. These values fuel my passion for fostering connections, sharing resources, and lifting each other up in pursuit of meaningful change.
Who are you outside of work:
Outside of work, I’m a naturally curious person who loves experiencing all that life has to offer. I enjoy learning new skills — I am obsessed with self-development, and I do it daily by reading books or listening to audio books and podcasts, participating in workshops and mentorship groups.
On the less intense side I tending to the plants in my yard and house. My dream is to eventually grow my own food to fuel my cooking passion. I grew up on home-cooked meals made from homegrown produce and meat, and that experience shaped my appreciation for the best quality food made with care.
To fuel my creativity, I’ve been social dancing for about six years, embracing bachata, salsa, merengue, and reggaeton—or really anything that gets me moving. Though I haven’t pursued it seriously yet, dancing is a joyful part of my life as is music. I haven't committed yet, but I will be learning Native American Flute in the near future, and I am considering getting back to playing a Ukrainian music instrument Bandura (look it up).
I also love to participate in recreational sports —like skiing and the newly discovered interest of mountain climbing. And I enjoy the occasional adrenaline rush with skydiving or bungee jumping. Someday, I hope to add scuba diving and even flying (yes, a private pilot’s license) to my list of adventures.
On top of my professional career, I hold a cosmetology license and an active massage therapy license. Currently, I’m working toward my real estate license—yet another step in my journey of exploration and growth.
Favorite or funny quote: My favorite quote that often makes me laugh is "If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail."- Benjamin Franklin. It's pretty hilarious when you know you have done yourself a disservice by forgetting something or slaking when you shouldn't be. As a result, you end up figuring it out on the go and laughing at yourself, because you know better.
